Tina Visits Tasmania
Earlier
this year, Tina (Tran Thi Thanh Tu) visited Tasmania for three
weeks, enjoying her stay having a won a prestigious English
language speaking competition in Vietnam. When interviewed she
commented that her stay allowed her to understand and enjoy the
Australian culture and different ideals of Tasmanian life. Tina
had to go through an intensive selection process (which included
submitting interviews and videos about herself whilst displaying
her English speaking skills). Tina was successful in obtaining a
scholarship to travel to Australia.
Staying for three weeks, Tina took in the many sights of
Tasmania, seeing Launceston, Devonport, Burnie and Cradle
Mountain She indicated that it was interesting comparing the
cultures of the two countries visiting amongst other places on
the mainland, Bondi Beach.
She believes that whilst Australians are more liberal, the
cultures are both friendly and inviting. She also enjoyed the
openness of learning in Tasmania, in particular the ability to
choose many different subjects, a far-cry from the more limited
offerings the education system in Vietnam.
Tina also enjoyed the ‘peaceful and tranquil’ environment,
especially in comparison to the traffic ridden and noisy Hoi Chi
Minh City, her hometown in southern Vietnam. She also enjoyed
having played Basketball and Volleyball in Tasmania, with both
sports being popular in Vietnam.
With her reaffirmed love of Australia and indeed her new love
for Tasmania, Tina now hopes to finish her education in Vietnam
and one day attend University in Australia.
Elizabeth College wishes Tina best wishes for future success in
her studies and hopes that she may visit us again one day.
