I’m Bec and I’m in my first year at Elizabeth College, and went
to Ogilvie for high school. An all girls’ school, like Ogilvie,
is a lot different to Elizabeth College. The style of Elizabeth
College is a lot more relaxed than high school, as students we
have more freedom, respect and choice. Your experience is really
relies on what you make of it. At the moment I am studying
Modern World History, English Studies, Maths Methods,
Environmental Science and Outdoor Ed. Outdoor Ed is of course my
favourite subject, it’s so much fun and we do so many different
things. So far we have been kayaking, surfing, caving,
snorkelling and are about to move onto abseiling. All of my
subjects are really interesting as everything I chose I did
because I wanted to, not because I had to. All the extra things
to do at College are great, for the enrichment I have been doing
pottery and water polo. Elizabeth College offers a lot of
different opportunities for everyone and it’s fantastic. I’m
about to interrupt my year at college to go to Costa Rica on an
eleven month exchange, but when I return Ill finish my year and
a half of college and then progress onto a tertiary level of
education; after doing a bit more travel. I’m hoping to pursue a
career in environmental sciences and languages.

I came to Elizabeth College for year 11 in 2006, having been at
New Town High School for the previous 4 years. Because New Town
is a feeder school, the counselling with my subject selection
and contact with teachers from the college at information nights
made the whole ‘crossing over’ experience easy and comfortable.
My keen interest in humanities has meant that many of my
pre-tertiary subjects are in this area (Sociology, English,
Legal Studies, Economics and Australia in Asia and the Pacific),
though my participation in the ECAAD program has encouraged me
to look outside these. As a result I also do Maths Methods and
in 2006 was part of the Athlete Development Program, to assist
my athletics and hockey. Now in year 12, I am looking to further
improve on last year’s results, and with the support and
guidance of the ECAAD program I should be able to do so. Next
year I hope to begin a Law-Arts degree at UTAS, after which I am
aspiring to become a lawyer.

After spending near two thirds of my life in the catholic school
system I decided in my eleventh year of schooling that it was
time for a change. Stepping from a strict emphasis on uniform
and behavioural guidelines into the hustle, bustle and freedom
of the public school system is something I will never regret. I
chose to pursue my college education at Elizabeth College
because I wanted a fresh start and knew with its excellence in
sport and academics that Elizabeth College would offer me this.
Most of my fellow peers were continuing their catholic/private
education. Elizabeth College has allowed me to express my
individuality and identity not only through its exceptional
array of subjects, programmes, courses and activities but
through the enthusiasm of the students and teachers. My current
subjects include psychology, physical sciences, maths methods 4C
and health studies each of which are both challenging and
interesting. When I don’t have my head buried amongst textbooks
or my eyes glues to the Elizabeth College library’s computers I
enjoy singing, dancing, netball, creative writing and art. As
part of the college community I am involved in a programme
called ECAAD. ECAAD has given me the opportunity to meet many
young people from different backgrounds and participate in a
range of cultural activities. My time at Elizabeth College so
far has been exciting and rewarding and hopefully a useful
stepping stone to my future car

I am currently a Year 12 student studying at Elizabeth College.
I came here after attending both Lindisfarne North Primary and
Ogilvie High School for the previous schooling years. This year
I am studying four pre-tertiary subjects, being English Studies,
Australian Studies, Psychology and Photography. Next year, I
hope to enrol in at the Tasmanian University and complete a
Bachelor of Journalism, continuing on and becoming a Sports
Journalist working with a top Australian newspaper.
I spend my free time dancing with the House of Dance, and
playing tennis. I teach young children to play tennis, and also
work at the Mecure Hotel in Hobart as a waitress. I love
spending time with her close friends on the weekends. So far,
Elizabeth College has been a fun experience for me, developing
new friends with both teachers and peers. I believe that the
College gives students great opportunities in so many different
areas. Though I am looking forward to the future I will miss the
College.

Before coming to Elizabeth College I had been through four
different schools located around Tasmania and also in France. I
chose to come to Elizabeth College instead of Hobart College
because of its positive reputation and wide variety of subjects.
This year, I am studying English, Maths, Physical Science,
French and Chinese. The reason that I chose to study these
subjects was to keep my options as broad as possible.
When I complete my studies at Elizabeth College, I wish to
pursue a diploma of Law. I am hoping to choose a university on
the mainland or over overseas.
Overall I classify Elizabeth College as a great place to study
and socialise. The teachers are and will continue being great
mentors throughout the rest of my education. I believe that
Elizabeth College is an awesome place to begin ones professional
life.

After completing primary and secondary education on the
Tasman Peninsula at Tasman District School, I made the decision
to do my tertiary education at Elizabeth College. I had heard
from many teachers of the excellent facilities, such as the
schools’ jam packed library. During my two years I undertook
studies of the economics/maths outlook, completing Business
studies in year 11, leading into Economics, and Accounting at
the pre tertiary level in year 12.In year 12 when I packed my
timetable with 4 Pre-Tertiary subjects (as mean year 12's do),
but I also took PE as a subject to release from the stress of
academia.
I've enjoyed the social aspects, creating a close group of new
friends, as well as getting to know most people within the
college. Also it was great meeting people from different
countries and cultures, speaking to them about how they saw the
world, and noticing the similarities between all of us. College
sports were great bonding experiences, and a great way to show
college pride! I was involved in the ECAAD program, and found
this a great way to meet people with the same ambition and drive
to succeed in their scholastic years. In the future I wish to
continue on the Business side of studies, completing a Bachelor
of Economics at UTAS and on completion undertake a FINSA degree
(Financial Services Institute of Australasia) and then take on
the financial world, with ambitions of being the next big CEO.
I recommend Elizabeth College to anyone who wishes to further
their knowledge, and open their experiences through meeting a
vast array of different people, and those wishing to take the
next step, into University and the wider world.
