Why Choose Vocational Education and Training?

VET Programmes (Vocational Education and Training)

  • are Nationally Recognised Certificate Courses which allow you to begin industry qualifications while at College.
  • provide quality on and off the job training which is highly valued by employers.
  • give you an advantage in your pathways to further education, training and the workplace.
  • recognise competencies you have already gained from other training, courses and life experiences through RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning).
  • See your programme coordinator for further details.

Planning Your VET Course

Industry Specific Programmes
Within each of the VET Programmes you need to study the subjects listed in the Certificate section. These subjects include:

Industry Specific C subjects - which develop your knowledge and skills for your chosen industry.
Vocational Learning - which develops your general workplace skills and includes industry placements.

In addition, it is strongly recommended that you select an English and a Mathematics subject as appropriate to your background. Computing Subjects are also very relevant to VET courses. Programmes also list specific suggestions to complement your course. Read these carefully and plan your course to comprise at least four lines.

Value Adding Through VET

Do you have a part time job?
If you do you may be able to gain accreditation for the skills you have gained at work.

If you are not enrolling in a VET Programme consider enrolling in the RPL Programme. RPL stands for Recognition of Prior Learning. This is a one-line programme where you will meet with a coordinator on a negotiated basis to complete the necessary documentation to gain a statement of Attainment or Certificate in your field of employment.
